Each day the students work in the fields as part of their curriculum. The work is manually done with the occasional use of a rental tractor. Our Agricultural Specialist directs and supervises the work and coordinates with the other teachers to integrate the fieldwork with the academic courses taught at the school.
Our agricultural goals:
- Teach students agricultural techniques to improve the fertility and productivity to increase crop yield.
- Grow enough food to feed our students two meals a day.
- Market surplus crops to generate money to make our school as self-sustaining as possible
This year we are partnering with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Agriculture on a one-year project to begin development of a demonstration farm. The farm will serve as both a learning laboratory for our students and a resource for the larger community.
